Crossing the finish line
As part of my journey as a writer, I joined Romance Writers of America. Soon after, I joined the Romance Writers of America Online chapter. This past month was the KIA Marathon, named in honor of a member who's since passed on.
I work full time, so I do my writing in my spare time. This past month, I typed 193 pages. That's a personal record. This morning, I also realized it's the equivalent of half a manuscript. Woo-hoo!
So I've decided if I can do half a manuscript in a month, there's no reason I can't have a synopsis and query letter composed and sent by the end of the year. I'm giving myself one more week to decompress from finishing my last manuscript before I start the heavy editing. Then watch out, Honey Bumpers is making her debut!
On a personal note, I'm watching the movie Robots at the moment. It's pretty good. Never thought I'd see a kids movie mention Brazilian waxes and imitate Britney Spears in robot drag, but it's pretty good.

Welcome to My World
When I was 8 years old, I wrote a story about a girl named Melissa and her dog. I can't rememeber the dog's name, but I do remember that it had puppies. A lot of puppies. And Melissa sold the puppies for $10 each, making her a small fortune since the puppies came along every other week like clockwork, ten to twelve puppies at a time. My parents thought my story was hilarious. That wasn't exactly what I was going for. I wanted to be Beverly Cleary. Instead, I was a bit crushed that they hadn't recognized my talent.
I wrote another story when I was 12. This one was therapeutic for me. Junior high years are tough. I found it very soothing to extract fictitious revenge on those classmates that I just couldn't stand.
After that story, I took a long break from writing. This year I've taken it up again. I'm still using writing as an outlet for life's little annoyances, but this time I'm also studying the publishing industry and hoping I'll be able to take my finished manuscripts into the public eye.
I have one finished manuscript hidden in the farthest depths of my secret chest of items I refuse to admit to ownership of but can't bring myself to discard. This is the last you'll hear me speak of it.
I've recently finished rewriting my first serious attempt at a marketable novel, with a working title of Alter Ego. It's still in need of revisions, but I need some time away to give myself a bit of perspective before I hack it to pieces and paste it back together again. I classify this manuscript as contemporary romantic comedy with a chick-lit sort of feel. It's about everything that can go wrong when you go home to help plan a sibling's impromptu wedding. It's also about a few things that can go right. This story has been my baby for a very long time now. I have to step away and let it ferment before I take the next step in the process.
In the meantime, I'm working on a second manuscript. This one's speaking loudly to me now. It's actually very unhappy that I'm blogging at the moment, so I should probably get back to it. This story is much pushier than its predecessor. It demands to be heard.
Welcome to my world. I hope you enjoy your visit. I'll check back in from time to time.
